Athletes Ireland has published the 2016 Athlete Carding Scheme policy. All athletes (current and any new applications) will be reviewed against the 2016 criteria for consideration to join the programme. The 2015 Athlete Carding review will begin in October and reviews/new applications will be considered thereafter.
This is an update to the many questions around the new selection process for the 2015 IAAF World Championship qualifying marks based on the year-end-rankings list.
The rules are, that if an athlete does not make the standard, the IAAF will select athletes from the year-end-rankings list to fill the quota set for each event (each event has a different quota to fill). After the entries have closed on midnight on the 10th of August the IAAF will notify federations of those athletes who have been selected by their “ranking” to fill the event quota. Our policy allows Athletics Ireland to consider and confirm those athletes that are invited.
Athletics Ireland has released the policy for the 2015 European Cross Country Championships. The appointed Team Management Staff of Teresa McDaid, Paul McNamara and Steve Macklin will be responsible for the preparation and build-up, communications and delivery of support for the championship. Teresa, Paul and Steve will be contacting all potential coaches and athletes to discuss plans moving forward.
