Relay Panel Standard: (Tier 1) to be considered for a relay panel these are the performance standards an athlete needs to achieve. Support may be given to the relay team or individual panel members for competitions, camps and/or limited performance services.
Individual Relay Standard: (Tier 2) athletes selected for a relay panel who want to be considered for individual support (for running on a relay team only) must achieve these performance standards to receive individual funding and performance services support.
Individual Standard: (Tier 3]) athletes who are selected for a relay panel can be considered for individual carding support through their individual events must achieve the individual carding performance standards as outlined in the Operations Gold Performance Programme policy.
Relay Team Goal: outlined are the identified team relay goals and standards to be achieved by each age group. Teams may be identified as "Development" - capable of achieving a relay standard for a championship, "International"- a team capable of achieving a top 16 place at a championship, "World Class" - a team capable of achieving a top 8 place at a championship, "Podium" - a team capable of achieving a top 3 place at a championship.
Funding and support given to any relay team or individual will be based on AAI's available HP funding and resources which may vary from team to each age group. With limited resources and support, teams with the best chance of achieving a performance at a championship will be identified supported within our HP funding resources.

2017 Relay Panel - Selection Criteria
The following criteria is used for Relay Panel Selection purposes only during the 2017 season and not used for individual selection to a championship event.
As a guide the 2017 Panel Selections will look to pre-select a Relay Panel of athletes for the 4x4. The Selection Panel may be considered by the following factors:
- The Relay Panel for the 4x4 may consist of the individuals selected from but not limited to the 200m, 400m, 400h, 800m events
- Athletes who have achieved and repeat the Relay Panel performance standards during the 2016/2017 season (in their primary event) may be considered
- 2016/2017 AAI Ranking Lists and performance levels (the consistency of performance during the indoor/outdoor season – e.g: running multiple times under the performance standard, head to heads)
- 2016 relay splits taken from prior championship 4x4 relay events may be considered
- Relay Experience with the Irish relay programmes over the last two years (including but not limited by: individual experience at major championships, championship experience with relay teams)
- Engagement, availability and commitment to the 4x4 Relay programme during the 2016/2017 season
- Future relay team potential
• Athletes initially not selected for the Relay Panel who during the season makes a break-through in performance may be added/considered for the Relay Panel
• The relay panel will be reviewed throughout the 2017 season (for example after indoors, mid-season) to make an assessment of individual athlete performances - athletes may be dropped or added
• Athletics Ireland reserves the right to add panel members at any time during the season if by adding an athlete will help to achieve the performance objectives/goals of the high performance programme

- 2016/2017 AAI Ranking Lists and performance levels (the consistency of performance during the indoor/outdoor season – e.g: running multiple times under the performance standard, head to heads)
- Relay Experience over the last two years (including but not limited by: individual experience at major championships, championship experience with relay teams, exchange proficiency as shown in squad sessions and relay competitions)
- Engagement, availability and commitment to the 4x1 Relay programme (attendance record at relay sessions and relay scheduled competitions)
- Future relay team potential
• A review of the relay panels will take place at the end of the 2017 indoor season
• Athletes initially not selected for the Relay Panel who during the season makes a break-through in performance may be added/considered for the Relay Panel
• Athletics Ireland reserves the right to add panel members at any time during the season if by adding an athlete will help to achieve the performance objectives/goals of the high performance programme

Junior Relay squad sessions will be provisionally incorporated into the Junior and Youth Carding information Day in February 2017. Following this a programme of squad sessions and meets will be drafted taking into consideration the study commitments and race plans of all squad members.
